New Victorian Covid-19 restrictions have been announced in response to a growing number of cases in a Melbourne suburbs coronavirus outbreak.
From 11.59pm Thursday, 27 May until 11.59pm Thursday 3 June, the following rules apply to the entire state of Victoria.

Premier James Merlino’s New Set of Restrictions
Premier James Merlino had imposed a new set of restrictions for Australia’s second-most populous state, including limiting the size of public gatherings and making mask-wearing mandatory in restaurants, hotels and other indoor venues until June 4.
What Are the Restrictions?
- Schools will move to remote learning but will be open to vulnerable children and the children of essential workers. Early learning centres, childcare and family day care centres can open.
- Food retail and hospitality will be limited to take-away only service.
- Funerals (indoor and outdoor) will be restricted to no more than 10 people plus those necessary to conduct the funeral.
- Weddings (indoor and outdoor) are not permitted unless there are end of life or deportation reasons.
- Travel outside the home will be limited to five kilometres from your place of primary residence.
- Masks must be carried at all times and must be worn indoors and outdoors except at home (usual exemptions apply)
- Private and public gatherings will not be permitted.
Direction
A person who ordinarily resides in the State of Victoria during the stay at home period must not leave the premises where the person ordinarily resides, other than for one or more of the reasons specified in:
- necessary goods or services
- care or other compassionate reasons
- exercise
- work or education
- other specified reasons
- SARS-CoV-2 vaccination

Latest COVID-19 Case Numbers
Victoria has reported 11 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, with the outbreak now linked to four aged care homes. This brings the total number of infections to 51 and the total number of active cases in the state to 60, nine of which are in hotel quarantine.
Premier James Merlino said the state’s outbreak “may well get worse before it gets better”.
Mr Merlino said there were now more than 150 exposure sites, including the MCG and Marvel Stadium, but many of those had not yet been listed on the health department’s website.
